Our Approach

Diabetes Education Isn't a One-Time Event — It's an Ongoing Partnership.

Managing diabetes is a journey, and we're committed to walking it with you. At Celly Health, our Diabetes Care & Education Specialists get to know you, understand your life, and build a plan that actually works for the way you live.

Whether you're newly diagnosed and feeling overwhelmed, or you've been managing diabetes for years and need a fresh approach, our team is here with the knowledge, patience, and personal attention you deserve.

Affordable for Cash-Pay & Insurance Patients

  • Most insurance plans cover diabetes education — we can help you verify
  • Cash-pay and self-pay patients welcome with transparent pricing
  • HSA and HRA funds can be used for diabetes education services
  • Many patients pay out of pocket and submit to their insurer for reimbursement

Insurance typically covers diabetes education at four key times: at diagnosis, annually or when not meeting treatment targets, when complicating factors develop, and when transitions in life and care occur.

"For the first time, I felt like someone actually understood what I was going through — not just my numbers, but my life."
— Celly Health Patient

Understanding Diabetes

Types of Diabetes

The first step in managing diabetes is understanding what type you have and how it affects your body.

Prediabetes

Blood sugar higher than normal but not Type 2. Roughly 1 in 3 adults have it. Losing 5–7% of body weight and exercising 150 min/week can significantly reduce your risk.

Reversible with Action

Type 2 Diabetes

The most common form. Your body doesn't make enough insulin or cells don't use it effectively. Symptoms develop slowly — knowing your risk matters.

Risk Factors

Family historyOverweightLow activityGestational diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes

Your body doesn't produce insulin. Usually diagnosed young but can occur at any age. Requires daily insulin shots or pump therapy.

Common Symptoms

Frequent urinationThirstHungerWeight lossFatigueBlurred vision

Gestational Diabetes

Occurs during pregnancy when your body can't meet extra insulin demands. Typically resolves after birth but increases future Type 2 risk for mom and baby.

Diabetes & Exercise

Moving Your Body Changes Everything.

Consistent activity helps your body use insulin more efficiently, lowers blood sugar, and improves your A1C.

Why Exercise Matters

Regular activity improves sleep, manages stress, lowers heart disease and stroke risk, raises good cholesterol, and controls blood pressure. When you choose activities you enjoy, it becomes something you look forward to.

Two Types That Work Together

Experts recommend both aerobic exercise (walking, biking, swimming — 30 min most days) and strength training (weights, bands, or bodyweight — 2–3 sessions/week with rest days between).

Start Where You Are

No gym needed. Take the stairs, walk after dinner, dance in your living room. Every bit adds up.

Your Goal: 150 Minutes per Week

Don't go more than 2 days without activity. Walking 10–20 minutes daily beats one long session weekly.

Lean on Your Care Team

If you have nerve damage, foot concerns, or eye issues, your educator will help modify exercises. Always monitor blood sugar before, during, and after activity.

Check Before You Move

Always check blood sugar before exercising:

< 100May be too low. Have a small snack first.
100–250Safe range for most people.
250+Check for ketones. Wait until levels drop.

Watch for Lows

Activity can lower blood sugar too much. Watch for shakiness, dizziness, sweating, or confusion. Carry glucose tablets.

Check Your Feet

Wear well-fitted shoes. After exercise, check feet for redness, blisters, or irritation.

Diabetes & Nutrition

Eating Well Doesn't Mean Eating Less.

No one-size-fits-all diet. Find the balance where you manage blood sugar while enjoying meals.

The Diabetes Plate

Half non-starchy vegetables, quarter protein, quarter carbs. Pair with water. Portion control over restriction.

Regular Meals & Snacks

Eat every 3–4 hours. Combine complex carbs with protein or healthy fat for steady blood sugar.

Prioritize Water

Sports drinks and sodas impact blood sugar. Water is best. Moderate alcohol — it can interfere with blood sugar regulation.

Listen to Your Body

Honor hunger with nourishing food. Set your environment up for success.

Be Kind to Yourself

It takes ~66 days to form a habit. Steps backward are part of the process. Your care team is here to adjust things to your pace and to encourage you.

Don't Wait for a Problem. Stay Ahead of One.

Schedule annual wellness exams and work with your Celly Health care team for continued good health.

Schedule Your Wellness Exam

What can I expect?

Your Celly Health care team tailors each visit to you. A typical wellness exam includes:

  • Physical Exam — Vitals, BMI, weight, reflexes, and baseline health checks.
  • Medical History Review — Changes since your last visit, plus family background that may affect your risk.
  • Lifestyle Discussion — Eating habits, activity, work routine, mental health, and daily well-being.
  • Disease Screenings — Vary by age, sex, and risk. Includes osteoporosis, blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart disease.
  • Labs — Blood, urine, and other testing in our on-site CLIA-certified lab. Results reviewed by your provider.
  • Vaccinations — Flu, pneumonia, shingles, and others administered during your visit.

After your exam, you'll work with your care team on a plan — medications, weight management, dietary changes, or lifestyle adjustments personalized to you.

What should I bring?

Bring your insurance cards and a list of current medications. If you've received care outside Celly Health, request that your medical records be transferred ahead of time so that we can review them together. Bring any medical devices you use (inhalers, glucose monitors). Some labs require fasting — your care team will let you know in advance.

How often should I go, and how do I pay?

Annual wellness exams are recommended for most adults. If you're managing diabetes or other chronic conditions, your provider may suggest more frequent visits. Consistency gives your care team the data to catch changes early.

Celly Health accepts insurance and cash pay. You can also use your HSA or HRA funds. Many patients pay at the time of service and submit to their insurer for reimbursement — our team can walk you through the process.
